Covid-19 Policy

This policy sets out the differences and changes, as well as extensions currently in place, which show contrasts to the nursery's usual policies and proceedures .
Admissions, Dropping off and Collecting

Parents are not permitted to enter the building. A staff member will collect the child from the front door and return them at the end of the session. Feedback and handover should commence as normal as communication between staff and children remain crucial for fulfilling the child's needs, well-being and development.

Parents should avoid bringing items in from home. If your child has a comforter at nursery, we will look to keep one at the nursery to limit the spread between home and the setting. For example; keeping a dummy at hte nursery which will be cleaned appropriately or a blanket which can be stored in a named, sealable bag. Spare clothes and bags should be left at nursery; soiled clothes will be sent home. Nappies and wipes should be in a named, sealed pack, these can easily be cleaned down on the packaging with the contents remaining uncontaminated.

Parents should collect alone. Where possible, parents should aim to collect their child alone, avoid bringing family members with you. This is to reduce the population of people outside the nursery at any given time. If it is not possible to not bring siblings with parents to collect, we would reinforce that children should remain supervised at all times. Parents/carers will be asked to adhere to their drop off and collection times.

Parents should maintain social distancing when waiting outside. Parents should not 'gather' directly outside the front door of the nursery. Parents should remain at least 1 metre apart from other parents/carers.

Food and Drink

Children will not have the option to 'self-serve'. Until further notice, staff will serve and pour all foods and drinks for the children whilst encouraging children to choose themselves. This is to reduce items being 'shared' between multiple hands. One staff member will pour from one jug, for example.

Symptons, Exclusion and Illness

The setting must ensure they understand the NHS Test and Trace process and ensure that staff members, parents and carers understand they must;

self-isolate(https://www.gov.uk/government/publication/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection) if theyhave been in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19

We will not allow children to attend nursery if they have had Calpol within 6 hours of arriving to nursery. Calpol will disguise any temperature and potentially other symptons so a child who has had calpol, for any reason, will not be allowed to attend.

General Health & Safety

Hand Washing. Everyone entering the building should wash their hands immediately after entering, following the good practice guide located at the hand washing sinks. Staff and children should wash their hands for 20 seconds frequently throughout the day with importance being put on: after you have coughed or sneezed, been to the toilet, been outside, before and after eating, before and after cleaning, before preparing or handling food etc. Hand sanitiser shouls be used when soap and water isn't readily available, however this shouldn't substitute for washing your hands with warm water and liquid soap.

Keep rooms well ventilated. Windows should be open for good ventilation.

All staff to have Covid-19/Infection Prevent and Control training. All staff working within the building will have completed online Covid-19 training and Infection Prevent and Control in an early Years Setting before returning to work.

Inside the Nursery

Outside play will be optimised. Children will be encouraged to spend as much time outside as possible. Maintaining good practice regarding children's protection against weather conditions will always be adhered to. Parents will still be asked to apply sun cream on their child before arrival and prents will be asked to confirm that sun cream has been applied. Children will need to have a named sunhat that needs to remain at nursery.

Staff should maintain an alertness of social distancing and take every effort to remain socially distanced from other staff mmbers. In communal areas such as toilets, staff should ensure they maintain strict cleaning proceedures; as well as when using communal items such as the kettle and microwave(high touch surfaces, buttons etc; should be appropriately cleaned after use of one person).

Parents who would like to have a conversation with a staff memeber regarding their child are strongly encouraged to do this over the phone or email as opposed to face-to-face. The phone should be cleaned after each use.

This policy may need to be amended or updated in accordance with any new guidance or advice.
